Growing to greatness begins with starting horses!

All over the world “broke” means a horse can be ridden and “unbroke” means the horse is not yet ready to ride. It’s still common to start training horses by “breaking” its spirit in order to dominate the horse and bend its will to the trainer’s by a struggle.

At Finches we prefer to look at the time when horses survived for millions of years as a prey animal, doing everything to avoid wolves and large cats. Our domesticated horses still have those instincts of survival within them. It’s these unique qualities that make a relationship with a horse different for us than dogs and cats.

In the starting and training process it is therefor crucial to offer choice to the horse! By trusting a horse to express his natural skepticism of putting a rider on his back, the trainer can help the horse make cooperative decisions. Training is a balance between stretching to learn something foreign to the horse’s nature and yet creating a trusting environment. The most important element in the process of training is communication.

Horses thrive in a cooperative environment!

At Finches we will work your horse at least 5 times a week according to a fixed programm but adjusted to the pace of your horse. The other days of the week your horse gets its exercise on a pasture (summer) or paddock (winter).

Every week we will send you a video so you can keep in touch with your horses progress.

After a month at Finches your horse will know how to walk, trot and canter in an arena. You will be able to turn, to halt and to change tempo but above all you will be able to create a valuable partnership with your horse.

For more information send an email to pbo@bouwdata.net and we will contact you as soon as possible!
